VISION

The Institute's vision is of a province and a society without family violence where individuals, families and communities are caring, respectful and supportive.

MISSION

In pursuit of our vision, the Institute's mission is to support, co-ordinate and initiate research and education programs which promote the elimination of violence in all families.

MAJOR GOALS

  1. BCIFV works to eliminate emotional abuse, psychological abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, destruction of property, injury to pets, physical assault, sexual assault and homicide in relationships of family, trust or dependency.

  2. BCIFV works to eliminate victimization of all family members, particularly those who are more vulnerable than others because of their gender, sex, race, ethnicity, culture, religion, physical condition, developmental capacity, mental health, age, sexual orientation, socio/economic status or related condition.

  3. BCIFV carries out its work by undertaking research and disseminating the results through education for the identified client groups.

  4. BCIFV works to facilitate and co-ordinate interaction among various community, university and government agencies.

The Institute publishes information and educational resources ( e.g. newsletter, publications) as well as provides library services through the BCIFV Resource Centre.
